Minister Karding Praises The Mental Rantau Of West Sumatra Residents, Gives Way To Fill 1.7 Million Job Orders Abroad

The Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) has encouraged the Provincial Government of West Sumatra (West Sumatra) to take advantage of the opportunity of 1.7 million jobs orders or requests for work abroad.

This message was conveyed by Minister Karding while attending a meeting with the Governor-Deputy Governor (Deputy Governor) of West Sumatra Mahyeldi Ansharullah-Vasko Ruseimy and the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) at the West Sumatra Governor's Office, Padang on Tuesday (3/6/2025).

Until May 25, the job order is 1.7 million job orders, yes. Which is filled by the state, which we have just filled out of 1.7 million job requests, only 297 thousand," said Minister Karding.

Minister Karding assessed that the mentality of monitoring West Sumatra residents was unquestionable. This factor is one of the great potentials of West Sumatra as a pocket for Indonesian migrant workers.

"The same thing with this ministry with its passion, is that there is no need to push its mentality anymore. Because people here are mentally monitorable. The point of meeting is here, the potential is Mr. Gub and Mr. Deputy Governor," said Minister Karding.

According to Minister Karding, sending Indonesian workers abroad is an investment in human resources for the future. Later, those who have finished working abroad are expected to become experts in certain fields of work.

"So there are changes in work behavior, how to work. This is actually expensive for us, this class of regions invests in human resources to become skilled in all fields," said Minister Karding.

"Now don't think that people working abroad are just household assistants (ART). There are a lot of high skills, IT, pilots, supervisors, managers, there are a lot of requests for high skills," he added.

Therefore, Minister Karding encourages cooperation between the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) and the Padang Provincial Government regarding training to the placement of Indonesian migrant workers.

"So if you wish, let's get to the regency, our city to work together. We have a special design in accordance with regional characteristics and so do the provinces," said Minister Karding.

On the other hand, the Governor of West Sumatra appreciated the policies launched by the Ministry of P2MI. He hopes that the West Sumatra Provincial Government and KemenP2MI can work together regarding supervision and assistance for Indonesian migrant workers.

"We are good at the various policies that have been launched by the Ministry of P2MI, ranging from digitizing services, pre-placement training to international cooperation," said the Governor of West Sumatra.

The Governor of West Sumatra acknowledged that the volume of migrant workers from his area was still relatively low.

However, he ensured that those who left for work abroad had complied with the procedures in accordance with applicable regulations.

"Indeed, it is not that big when compared to other provinces, but what needs to be grateful for and proud of is that almost 99% of the placement of PMI from West Sumatra is in a formal scheme, which means they work in legally recognized sectors through official channels," said the Governor of West Sumatra.
