JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding revealed the rampant practice of falsifying identities by brokers to illegally dispatch prospective Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) abroad.
This was conveyed by Karding when visiting Sri Wahyuni, a PMI who was sent home from Malaysia in a paralyzed condition due to a stroke, at the Police Hospital, East Jakarta, Sunday, June 1.
"The case of Mrs. Sri Wahyuni must be our concern. From the existing data, when checked at the address on the ID card, namely Lamongan, Karanggene, the name was not found. This means that at that time he must have been a victim of brokers who faked his ID card," said Karding.
As a result of falsification of the identity, officers had difficulty tracing the original address and the whereabouts of Sri Wahyuni's family.
Meanwhile, Wahyuni's condition, who is currently unable to speak, also complicates the process of searching for his family.
"Now we haven't been able to find his family. He is suffering from a severe stroke and can't speak," said Karding.
Nevertheless, Karding said he was grateful for the development of Sri Wahyuni's health condition which showed little progress.
"Alhamdulillah, according to the doctor's statement, his eyes can be opened and can respond to voice and touch," he added.
Minister of P2MI again reminded the public not to be tempted by broker persuasion and always take legal steps if they want to work abroad. According to him, migrant workers who depart procedurally will receive full protection from the state.

"Illegal PMIs are not registered in the government system, so when they face problems, the state will find it difficult to provide protection or assistance," said Karding.
