Menbud Fadli Zon: IKN Homes With Indonesian Culture

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized that the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), the new capital city of Indonesia, which was built in parts of North Penajam Paser Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, is a common home for Indonesian culture.

"IKN is not just a center of government, but also a house with Indonesian culture," said Minister Fadli Zon on the sidelines of the Nusantara Cultural Festival or Nusantara Cultural Festival at KIPP IKN in Sepaku, North Penajam Paser, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, May 31.

"The cultural festival is a form of commitment to build a cultural ecosystem at IKN, we appreciate holding a festival as a forum for cultural conservation," he continued.

The Nusantara Cultural Festival, which was first held in the core area of the IKN government (KIPP) which lasted for three days, from May 30 to June 1, 2025, carries the theme "Nusantara is us, we are the archipelago".

The Nusantara Cultural Festival, which was attended by 500 participants from 23 contingents, became a reflection of the rich culture of the archipelago which included a variety of performance arts, traditions, culinary arts, crafts, and local expressions from various regions.

The role of the IKN Authority provides cultural space for the arts and cultural community from all over Indonesia in the capital city of Indonesia, he explained, is very important as a form of the government's commitment to advancing regional culture in the midst of globalization and cultural acculturation.

The government led by President Prabowo Subianto is committed to making culture a soft power national, as well as strengthening the identity of a nation with a personality in culture.

So, he said, the government invites all elements of society to make IKN not only the center of government, but also as the center of Indonesian civilization that illuminates the world with the light of diversity, wisdom and culture.

The Nusantara Cultural Festival is expected to be developed and in the future a Nusantara Cultural Carnival can be held by presenting more and more cultural communities from various regions in Indonesia.

"The development of IKN must be based on the spirit of national culture in accordance with Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning the Advancement of Culture and Law Number 21 of 2023 concerning the State Capital," said Fadli Zon.

The Nusantara Cultural Festival, which begins with reading literature, said Betore from the Paser Tribe, one of Indonesia's Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTb) which is usually carried out during the harvest, also displays a variety of products for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) including creative cultural products from various regions of East Kalimantan.
