After Snatching A Civil Servant's Cellphone, Two Perpetrators Were Arrested By The Police While Sleeping In Kost

JAKARTA - Two robbers who often act in Gambir and Kemayoran areas have been arrested by the Unit VI Precision Buser Team Ranmor of the Central Jakarta Metro Police Satreskrim.

The two perpetrators often disturb the public with various street crimes such as the robbery they are doing.

The two suspects are known to have the initials RO (26) and DWP (23). They were arrested at an boarding house in the Tanah Merah area, Koja, North Jakarta.

In the action, the two perpetrators searched for targets against pedestrians who were holding cellphones in public areas.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro said the incident began with a report by a victim of a civil servant (PNS) with the initials SU (57) that he was a victim of robbery on Jalan H. Juanda, Central Jakarta.

The victim was snatched while walking while holding a Samsung A20S cellphone to make a digital absence through his cellphone.

"The victim was grabbed from behind by the perpetrator who was riding. In the action, the suspect DWP rode a motorbike, while RO immediately took the cellphone from the victim's hand," said the Police Chief when confirmed, Friday, May 30.

The victim then made a report at the Central Jakarta Metro Police regarding the crime he experienced. After the incident was reported, the police conducted an investigation and identified two perpetrators who had often acted at a number of other points in Central Jakarta.

"They are not new perpetrators. They have acted on Juanda Street several times, Veterans, Officers, and HBR. Motik Kemayoran. Everything is done in the morning or during peak hours," he said.

Just so you know, the two perpetrators were arrested while sleeping in their boarding house. During the arrest, the two perpetrators did not fight back because they were still sleeping.

"When searched, we found a cardboard box of the Samsung A20S cellphone that matched the victim's IMEI data," he said.

From the confessions of the two suspects RO and DWP, they have carried out several snatch actions, especially during the month of Ramadan 2025. They targeted strategic locations that were crowded with residents, but had minimal supervision.

"In their confession, the action was carried out during Ramadan on Jalan Juanda, Veterans, Officers and last May in Kemayoran. They were looking for victims who were seen holding cellphones while walking," he said.

For their actions, the two perpetrators were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding theft by weight. Both face a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
