Commemorating National Elderly Day 2025, Pelindo Holds Free Health Checks

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia or Pelindo held a free health check service for 300 elderly people in Warakas Village, North Jakarta. This activity entitled 'Healthy Pelindo' was held to commemorate National Elderly Day 2025, targeting groups of people who have limitations in accessing medical services.

The services provided include blood pressure checks, blood sugar, cholesterol, and direct consultations with medical personnel from Puskesmas and local health volunteers.

"We want Pelindo's presence in the port community not only to be felt economically, but also in the form of social and humanitarian concern," said Pelindo Company Secretariat Group Head Ali Sodikin, Thursday, May 29.

Similar activities were held simultaneously in several Pelindo operational areas, including at Malahayati Port, Aceh Besar District. There, as many as 170 elderly people also received a free similar examination.

Ali called the elderly the most vulnerable group to health problems. However, on the other hand, they often face limited mobility, economy, and lack of medical assistance.

"This activity, which is part of Pelindo's Social and Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL), is the realization of our commitment to support the quality of life of the community, especially those living around the port," he said.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia has more than 30 million elderly people by 2024, or about 11 percent of the total population. This figure is expected to continue to increase along with the increasing life expectancy. However, the Ministry of Health noted, only 25 percent of the elderly in Indonesia routinely check their health to primary service facilities.

Many elderly people do not know their health condition until there are complications. Even though diseases such as hypertension and diabetes can be controlled if detected early," Ali explained. Therefore, he continued, Pelindo encourages a more proactive, educational, and inclusive health approach in the community.

As the largest port operator BUMN in Indonesia, Pelindo has the main mandate to build national logistics connectivity. However, Ali emphasized that the company's social function is no less important.

Social responsibility is part of our ecosystem. This is not just ceremonial, but part of a strategic approach to sustainable development," he said.

Previously, in the same series of programs, Pelindo also held an eye examination and provided free glasses for more than 600 elementary school students in the Tanjung Priok and Cilincing areas, North Jakarta.
