Golkar: Whatever The Excess And Lacks, Give Suharto The National Hero Title

JAKARTA - The Golkar Party hopes that the government will accept the proposal to award the title of national hero to the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia Suharto. As a former president, Suharto's services should be given the title whatever the advantages and disadvantages.

"If the Golkar Party has been clear from the start, we want General Besar Suharto to be made a national hero. So we hope that the government can immediately give him the title, a national hero," said Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party Adies Kadir, Wednesday, May 28.

"However, whatever the strengths and weaknesses, every president must have advantages and there is a lack," he added.

According to the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, during his 32 years as President of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto made many changes for national development. Even Jakarta as the capital city of the country, developed rapidly thanks to Suharto's leadership.

"There have been changes made for this country. Since Jakarta, we've seen for example the area around Monas, as long as he started reaching 1968 until he was the last 1998, it's very developed," explained Adies.

Apart from the pros and cons that occur in society, according to Adies, Suharto should be given the title of hero for his services as president regardless of his strengths and weaknesses.

"So regardless of all the shortcomings and advantages, if the presidents have services, then we will give them the title of national hero. They have retired," he said.
