JAKARTA - Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) Hasan Nasbi stated that the government has never questioned the delivery of public opinion in any form, including criticism of policies.
This statement was made in response to news of the revocation of news or takedown of opinions in one of the national online media as well as allegations of intimidation against its authors.
"The writing of opinions so far the government has had no problems, has no complaints with opinion writings. Even if necessary, the writing will be raised again, please," Hasan said in a statement at the PCO Office, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Monday, May 26, confiscated by Antara.
Regarding the issue of intimidation, Hasan said that the government did not know for sure who put pressure on the author. He encouraged the issue to be opened clearly through legal channels.
"Even yesterday, students' friends who were too excited to make memes that might have come out of the corridor of criticism, were later suspended and guaranteed by a member of the DPR to be released because the government wanted something like that to be fostered, not punished," he said.
Hasan emphasized that the protection of human rights and freedom of the press is the President's main commitment, which has been placed in the first Astacita towards national development.
The government, according to Hasan, consistently implements Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights, as well as Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the Press, both of which are under Article 28 of the 1945 Constitution.
