Palace: Police Act On Thugs From Mass Organizations To Completion Groups

Spokesperson for President Prasetyo Hadi said the National Police was aggressively taking action against thuggery, ranging from groups packaged in the form of community organizations (ormas) to related groups.

"What is packaged in the form of community organizations, right. There are even incidents whose organizations are not community organizations, this is a business organization as well," said Prasetyo when giving a press statement at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Friday, May 23.

"So this thuggery also takes various forms. Starting from those who wear ties to those who don't wear anything," he continued.

Prasetyo, who is also the Minister of State Secretary, explained the various forms of thuggery, both organized and unstructured.

He emphasized that eradicating thuggery is a shared responsibility to create public order and support a conducive business climate.

According to him, various forms of thuggery at all levels can disrupt investment and public order stability.

"All parties must realize that acts of thuggery at all levels and all types of variations will disrupt the investment climate and disrupt public order," said Prasetyo.

Within 9 days from May 9, 2025, the National Police managed to uncover 3,326 cases of thuggery in various parts of Indonesia, including the arrest of three officials from the Cilegon City Chamber of Commerce and Industry who allegedly harassed a company by asking for a project worth IDR 5 trillion.

Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya arrested 2,406 people related to the development of Operation Eradication Jaya 2025 which had been carried out for eleven days or from May 9 to May 20, 2025.

"In the last 11 days, 2,406 people have been arrested, then 231 of them have been proven or suspected of committing a criminal act, it has been processed," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi.

The people arrested were individuals, unscrupulous mass organizations, "debt collectors" and brawlers who were members of several motorcycle gangs.
