Residents Again Reject RDF Rorotan Waste Factory Operating

JAKARTA - Residents of Rorotan Village have again refused the operation of the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant waste factory, Rorotan, Cilincing District, North Jakarta, after being visited by the Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

"We deeply regret that the minister does not respect the MoU between residents and the management of RDF Rorotan," said the Coordinator of the Health Concerned Citizens Forum Rejecting the Rorotan RDF Garbage Factory Wahyu Andre Maryono as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 20.

In thedum of Understanding (MoU) or memorandum of understanding, RDFRorotan stopped operating because it had a health impact on the community.

Residents also appreciated the visit of the Minister of Environment to RDF Rorotan although it was considered slow. However, residents appreciate the steps taken by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in understanding the issue of RDF and its dynamics.

According to Wahyu, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has chosen to stop RDF activities that have caused respiratory and health problems for the community, while conducting studies and improvements in the operation of RDF.

In addition, RDF trials repeatedly show that the technology and systems used are not proven (proven) and repeatedly encounter problems and cause health problems ranging from ISPA, eye membrane inflammation, especially for children.

Residents also urged the Minister of Environment to listen to input from affected residents as well as reports and input from KPAI, Walhidan Green Peace Indonesia regarding the existence of RDF and its impact on the health of children, adults and the environment.

"We urge that the Ministry of Environment can fulfill the right to a good and healthy environment for every citizen, which includes the right to access to information," said Wahyu.

Not only that, the Ministry of Environment and the DKI Environment Agency must open the widest possible information regarding the operation of Rorotan RDF openly and honestly.

"Including environmental and Amdal licensing documents, which so far have never been received by residents," he said.

He also asked the government to guarantee the participation rights of citizens in every decision-making. Every plan or decision-making related to Rorotan RDF activities and activities must involve the surrounding community.

"Including Bekasi residents who are outside the administration of DKI Jakarta who are also affected by the negative operation of RDF in Jakarta," he said.

In addition, the residents forum asked the government to thoroughly audit the licensing process until the RDF Rorotan trial and take action against any negligence that causes air pollution and public health problems in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The public forum also asked the Minister of Environment to immediately implement the Supreme Court (MA) Decision Number 2560 K/Pdt/2023 which has permanent legal force since November 21, 2023, as a final result of a citizen lawsuit related to air pollution in Jakarta.
