Ojol Demo Demands 10 Percent Cut, Puan: DPR Is Looking For Win-Win Solution

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, responded to a massive demonstration by thousands of online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) who demanded no more than 10 percent of the application.

Puan said the DPR was looking for ways to negotiate with the two parties, namely ojol drivers and operators so that they both benefit.

"From the commission in the DPR, we are looking for the best win-win solution, so that there are parties who are harmed," said Puan, Tuesday, May 20.

In this case, said Puan, Commission V together with Commission IX, Commission XI and even Commission I in charge of communication and informatics will also follow up on the demands of the ojol.

"And we will of course follow up on what both parties want. So from commission V, from commission XI even commission I will also follow up on this," said Puan.

"So what is best for both parties we will follow up so that there is a win-win solution," he continued.

Nevertheless, Puan also appealed to ojol to hold demonstrations in an orderly manner. "So that it doesn't disturb public order," he concluded.

The demands of thousands of ojol in demonstrations, first, asked President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi to impose strict sanctions on application companies that violate regulations, namely the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number 12 of 2019 and the Minister of Transportation of the KP Number 1001 of 2022.

Second, urge Commission V of the DPR to hold a joint Hearing Meeting (RDP) involving the Ministry of Transportation, driver associations, and applicators.

Third, demanding that the maximum application cut is only 10 percent.

Fourth, request a revision of passenger fares and the elimination of programs such as aceng, slots, saves, and priorities that are considered detrimental to drivers. Fifth, demands that food service rates and delivery of goods be set fairly by involving driver associations, regulators, applicators, and the Indonesian Consumer Foundation (YLKI).

Regarding these demands, Commission V of the DPR will invite representatives of online motorcycle taxi driver unions for hearings (RDP) at the DPR Building on Monday, May 26. One of them discussed the regulation of a 10 percent discount on applications.

"We have captured the aspirations of our friends and commission V will schedule a hearing with this ojol on Monday, 1 pm. After that, Commission V of the DPR will invite operators," said Chairman of Commission V DPR Lasarus.

However, Lasarus said that Commission V of the DPR did not want to position ojol and operators on the same day. "Because if it is occupied on the same day, it is forced to make decisions in that room. Of course this is a problem from the side of the state," he explained.

"So what we need to pursue is the regulations. The law is what we need to pursue. For this demonstration, one of the demands is to request a 10 percent discount from the application," added Lasarus.
