Speaker Of The House Of Representatives Rejects Relocation Of Gazans, ISIF Chancellor: Puan's Call For Indonesian People's Voice Representatives

JAKARTA - The statement by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, who called for rejection of the idea of relocating Gazans from Palestine some time ago was greeted positively by various groups, including academics.

Puan's call was seen as a form of state's commitment to Palestinian independence, as well as representing the voice of the Indonesian people.

"Mbak Puan Maharani's voice as the Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives representing the Indonesian people about the rejection of the idea of relocation is really very appropriate and in line with Indonesia's commitment to abolish all forms of colonialism and realize world peace," said the Chancellor of the Cirebon Islamic Study Institute (ISIF), KH Marzuki Wahid, Monday, May 19.

"Agreeing to this relocation is tantamount to expelling Palestinians smoothly from their own country for years for their people and the world," he continued.

Puan previously firmly rejected the relocation of Gazans at the inauguration of the Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Parliamentary Conference (PUIC) forum which was held on Wednesday, May 14, evening. In the parliamentary forum session of the countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI), Puan said that Gaza belongs to Palestine so that the idea of relocating its citizens must be rejected.

Agreeing with Puan's statement, Marzuki emphasized that Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world must have the courage to speak out loud to ensure Palestinian independence and realize lasting peace in Gaza's earth.

"Mbak Puan's stance on Palestine and Gaza represents the voice of the largest Muslim population in the world," said the former Secretary of the Institute for Human Resources Studies and Development (Lakpesdam) of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board.

In addition to the firm commitment in line with the state, Puan is considered to represent Indonesia's voice because she conveyed this in front of hundreds of OIC parliamentary delegates and observer countries.

Moreover, at that time, Puan was standing to give a statement as the highest peak for Indonesian legislative institutions.

According to Marzuki, as part of the world's largest Muslim population, Indonesia's voice is taken into account. Therefore, Indonesia must show a firm attitude towards the elimination of all forms of colonialism in the world.

"Building public order, and realizing lasting peace, including in the Gaza region, Palestine," said Marzuki.

Marzuki also considered that the leadership of Indonesian institutions such as Puan Maharani's firm stance on resolving conflicts and the Palestinian independence struggle was eagerly awaited by the international public, especially world Islamic countries such as the OIC.

"Mbak Puan as the representative of all Indonesian people and as a female leader who always prioritizes harmony and peace, is always waiting for her firm and wise attitude, especially in resolving world conflicts in a peaceful manner that benefits both parties, win-win solutions," he explained.

Meanwhile, Puan is currently carrying out the mandate as the 19th PUIC President following the chairmanship of the DPR RI at the OKI parliamentary forum. At the 19th PUIC Conference where the DPR acted as Chairman of the DPR last week, a number of representatives of delegates expressed optimism for Puan as the leader of the OKI parliamentary forum.

"The attitude of being wise and firm in principle, as did Mbak Puan, is always expected by countries in the world," concluded Marzuki.

Previously, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, called for rejection of the idea of relocating Palestinians from the Gaza region at the inauguration of the 19th PUIC Conference or the Parliamentary Union forum for countries that are members of the OKI at the Nusantara Building, Parliamentary Complex of the Indonesian Parliament, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 14, evening. President Prabowo Subianto was also present at the event.

In her remarks, Puan admitted that she was concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian condition in Gaza, where civil society was victims of war, including women and children who were starving. In addition, hospitals and schools are not spared from destruction.

"We are gathered today in the shadow of a sad situation in Gaza that touches our human values. We must be able to help in various ways and influences we have, to be able to end the inhumane situation in Gaza," said Puan at the opening of the 19th PUIC Conference at the DPR building, Wednesday, May 14.

According to Puan, one of the concrete steps that can now be taken is to reject the idea that Palestinians be reallocated from Gaza. Puan emphasized that Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people.

"We must reject the idea of relocating Palestinians from the Gaza region. Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people. Gaza must be rebuilt not only by buildings and walls but also by self-respect, justice, and hope," he stressed.
