Death Toll In Gaza Reaches 53 Thousand, Israel Accused Of Continued Genocide

JAKARTA The death toll from Israeli military aggression in the Gaza Strip continues to grow. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that as of Saturday, May 18, 2025, the total death toll since the start of the attack in October 2023 has reached 53,272 people.

In its latest report, the ministry said at least 153 Palestinians had died in recent times, while 459 others were injured. Thus, the number of injured victims in Gaza has now reached 120,673 people.

Palestinian authorities say there are still many victims buried under the rubble or lying on the streets. However, rescue teams had difficulty reaching the affected locations because military attacks were still ongoing. This information was quoted from the Anadolu news agency through ANTARA's report, Saturday, May 17.

The Israeli military is known to have again intensified attacks on March 18, 2025, as well as halted the implementation of the ceasefire and a prisoner swap agreement that had been in effect since last January.

Since early March, Israel has also imposed a total blockade on the entry of humanitarian aid such as food, clean water, and medicines to the Gaza region. Various international humanitarian agencies say this condition sparked a severe humanitarian crisis and raised the threat of mass hunger.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and human rights abuses in Gaza.

In addition, Israel is now facing charges of genocide in the International Court of Justice (ICJ), following the increasing number of civilian casualties due to military operations that continue in the region.
