UGM Ready To Face Rp69 Trillion Lawsuit Regarding Jokowi's Diplomas At The Sleman District Court

YOGYAKARTA - Gadjah Mada University (UGM) stated that it is ready to face a civil lawsuit worth Rp. 69 trillion which was filed at the Sleman District Court (PN) regarding the polemic of the authenticity of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Head of the UGM Legal and Organizational Bureau, Veri Antoni, emphasized that UGM respects this legal step.

"Depositing a lawsuit is the right of every citizen and UGM respects this right," said Veri as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 15.

The lawsuit was filed by a resident named Komardin who accused UGM of committing an unlawful act because he was considered to have allowed a commotion about the authenticity of Jokowi's diploma without open clarification.

Comardin also linked this polemic to disturbances to national economic stability.

According to Veri, the fantastic loss value claimed in the lawsuit is something that the plaintiff must prove.

Including, he said, the clarity of the "legal standing" or legal standing of the plaintiff in the eyes of the law.

"The amount of the value of the loss claimed by the plaintiff is the plaintiff's right and the plaintiff's obligation to prove it, including the legal standing of the plaintiff which must be clear," he said.

UGM is currently watching the contents of the lawsuit thoroughly before taking further legal steps.

"UGM studied and observed the plaintiff's lawsuit carefully and ready to face the lawsuit," he said.

Regarding the possibility of taking legal action against or a lawsuit against Veri, this is an open option. However, for the time being, UGM is still focused on the subject matter of the case in the lawsuit filed by Comardin.

"The lawsuit is an effort that can be carried out by UGM, but for now UGM is still focused on the substance of the lawsuit filed by the plaintiff," said Veri.
