JAKARTA - An Israeli settlers who were pregnant with old age were shot dead in the occupied West Bank area. This incident sparked calls from pro-comme hardline leaders for nearby Palestinian villages to be razed to the ground.

No party has claimed responsibility for the shooting near the Brukhin settlement in the northern region of the West Bank. The Israeli military is looking for the culprit.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog said Tzeela Gez was shot while in a car with her husband while they were driving to the hospital to give birth.

Israeli media reported that Gez was declared dead after being taken to hospital, where the baby was born through caesarean surgery. The baby was reported to be in serious but stable condition. Meanwhile, Gez's husband, Hananel, suffered minor injuries.

The attack, which took place amid one of Israel's largest military operations in the West Bank in two decades, sparked an angry reaction from Israeli politicians who said nearby Palestinian cities, Bruqin and az-Zawiya, had to be destroyed like Gaza's cities.

"Just as we leveled Rafah, Khan Younis, and Gaza, we also have to flatten the terror dens in JAPAN and Samaria," said far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, using a term often used in Israel for the West Bank.

Israel's chief of general staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, visited troops who were searching for the attacker, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his horror with the incident.

"I rely on security forces who, in this case too, will soon find the killers and resolve the problem with them and anyone who helps them," Netanyahu said in a statement.

The Israeli military said late Wednesday the soldiers were pursuing the perpetrators. It was not immediately clear whether the military or other Israeli authorities had identified those involved.
