DPR Legislators Ask OKI To Encourage Israel To Be Sued In The International Court

JAKARTA - Member of the PDIP faction of the DPR as well as Chairman of the DPR RI Budget Agency, Said Abdullah hopes that the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference or the state parliament conference that is part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI) will issue a recommendation against Israel to the International Court. Moreover, one of the focuses of the forum is discussing humanitarian issues and the struggle for Palestinian independence.

It is known that the DPR RI acts as the organizer of the PUIC Conference or the state parliament conference that is members of the 19th OIC. At the same time, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, was named the Chair of the OKI Parliament or the President of PUIC this year.

This international meeting will take place on 12-15 May 2025 and officially the inauguration event will be opened by President Prabowo Subianto last night.

"As emphasized by Mbak Puan, as the Speaker of the DPR, at the opening of the PUIC yesterday afternoon, I strongly support the Islamic world which has a population of more than 2 billion, and is a quarter of the world's population has become a power of civilization. As a power of civilization, the country of the OIC must be able to be a pioneer for better world peace and world governance," Said told reporters, Thursday, May 15.

"We should be sad, many Muslim-populated countries are involved in a dispute. Most recently, Pakistan as an OIC member was involved in a war with India. It is even sad that Palestine has been brutally punished by Israel. Even humanitarian aid cannot be channeled because of the Israeli blockade," he continued.

According to Said, the world seems paralyzed to realize Palestinian sovereignty and independence. Israel continues to carry out actions outside of humanity against Palestinians.

But unfortunately, Said said, there were no penalties against Israel, which should have been brought to the court of the International Court in The Hague.

"Therefore, I hope that the PUIC conference recommends demands against Israel to the International Court," said the PDIP legislator from the East Java electoral district.

Through the PUIC conference chaired by Puan Maharani, Said hopes that Indonesia can encourage the governments of OIC member countries to unite. Stop the Israeli military aggression against Palestine, and restore peaceful civilization in Palestine.

Moreover, Said continued, the world is facing economic and political competition such as the trade tariff war has damaged the global trade order, climate change, poverty, social inequality, and geopolitical tensions.

"We hope that through this PUIC recommendation, the Islamic world will be able to manifest Islamic teachings that are rahmatan lil alamin, to provide a solution to the problems above," said the chairman of the PDIP DPP.

Said said, at a time when many countries with Muslim majority populations face political challenges, wars and social conflicts between political factions, and are unable to manage politics in a civilized manner through the democratic path, Indonesia, which is also a member of the OIC and is the largest Muslim population in the world, can take a role in becoming a role model role for OIC member countries through this PUIC conference.

As a country with the largest Muslim population with progress, according to Said, Indonesia can present democracy in political life. A sacred Islam and profanous democracy can be combined in state and social life in Indonesia.

"One of the manifestations of our democracy, what we find difficult to find in the majority of Muslim countries is the broad women's participation space in various fields," he said.

"Indonesian parliament proves that under women's leadership it can become a parliament that is dual to the world, and is part of the global parliament, which actively voice world peace, global politics that is more equal, and various development agendas," continued Said.

Said assessed that the momentum of this PUIC meeting should be a space for consolidation and common bonding of Muslim countries to be more solid.

"At least to realize peace in the Middle East is realized. So that the 19th PUIC provides an important meaning for achieving peaceful resolutions in the Middle East which have failed to materialize," he concluded.
