PURWAKARTA - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) said that the policy to prohibit graduation for school students from early to upper middle age is intended to suppress the involvement of the people of West Java in online loan bondage.
"The main problem is why I stopped my graduation activities, tour studies, farewells, I am currently undermining online loans. Because West Java is the highest ranking in loans, one of which is consumption for their children," said Dedi during a visit to SMAN 2 Purwakarta with the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, Wednesday, May 14, reported by ANTARA.
Dedi said the need for minors to fulfill their wishes to use cell phones or school activities outside the essence of teaching and learning has made parents finally use online loan services because of the economy that is unable.
West Java still holds the highest ranking of online loan cases. This was strengthened through the Bappeda West Java page which stated that in 2024 the total debt of West Java residents reached Rp. 18.6 trillion with more than 5 million active loan recipient accounts.
KDM also mentioned that there is a habit that has become a "culture" in West Java that it's okay to owe as long as it looks rich.
Dedi and local government officials are trying to change the paradigm and implement a policy to prohibit graduation, tour studies and school separations, one of which is to reduce the rampant "cuts" of West Java's finances.
"Well, this is homework for a governor, who like the Minister said earlier, must have a strong hand to immediately change the paradigm that the West Javanese have long been used to, a culture of "kajenting teak from honorarium". This means that even though he owes an important debt outside it looks rich," he said.
KDM also said that the existence of government regulations through PP Tunas that oversee negative content to be accessible to children under 18 is also a good step as an upstream to reduce online loans and online gambling.

Dedi Mulyadi said that PP Tunas was an initial barricade to protect Indonesian children from technical aspects regarding child safety in the digital space.
"If it's just an approach, we approach the pattern of education, then the pattern of training, stopping teenagers from using and being addicted to online games, it will not be finished. I think there should be an upstream that is actually being addressed. So this PP is actually upstream from all improvements in the use of social media," he said.
