Last Mourner: Prabowo Respects The Maestro Silat

JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto mourns the last funeral of pencak silat figure, late Maj. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya, at the Pencak Silat Padepokan, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, Tuesday, May 13.

Prabowo, who was present at 15.45 WIB, was seen wearing a brown safari and a black cap. He immediately greeted the deceased's family, approached Eddie's body and saluted him. After that, Prabowo approached the family of the late Eddie furiously and kissed the grandchildren of the late Eddie.

"On behalf of the government also on behalf of the entire Indonesian and world pencak silat community and on behalf of myself, I would like to express my condolences for the death of Major General TNI (Ret.) Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya," said Prabowo.

Prabowo said the deceased was a figure of freedom fighters and former Chairman of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (IPSI) who played an extraordinary role in fostering and preserving pencak silat as a national cultural heritage.

"He is an example of a true leader and patriot. I am sure that even in the last moments of his life, what he thinks of is his beloved homeland," said Prabowo.

According to Prabowo, pencak silat is not just a sport or martial arts, but also part of the formation of national personality and the spirit of defending the country.

"I have known him since the 80s. He is very diligent and has a big role in fostering pencak silat in Indonesia," said Prabowo.

Prabowo emphasized that history shows a nation that is weak mentally, physically, and enthusiastically, will become a failed nation. In the midst of the challenges of the times, Prabowo called Eddie a persistent figure who grounded pencak silat at home and abroad.

"If you ask who is the General Chair of IPSI, everyone will answer: Eddie Nalaparya. Loh, Pak Prabowo? I'm just a replacement," he said while remembering the dedication of the deceased.

For his services, Eddie Nalaparya during his lifetime was awarded the Mahaputera Star, one of the highest awards from the country.

Ending his statement, Prabowo prayed for the deceased to be accepted by God Almighty.

"We let him go. Once again, we lose fighters who have given their best," Prabowo said.

"Goodbye Mr. Eddie. Go to the Supreme Commander, Allah SWT, who has all nature. Only to Him do we pray, only to Him we ask for help, and in the end to Him we will come back," concluded Prabowo.
