The National Police Affirms The Legal Process Of Uploading Prabowo Memes According To Procedures

JAKARTA - The legal process against a student of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) with the initials SSS who became a suspect for uploading indecent memes with the image of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, said the Police had complied with the procedure.

The legal process was carried out by the Directorate of Cyber Crime (Dittipidsiber) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit before finally the detention of SSS was suspended on Sunday (11/5).

"We believe this process is based on a procedural, proportional, and professional process and of course the legal team always accompanies in this case to provide accountability," said Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the Police Public Relations Division Brigadier General Pol. Trunoyudo Vishnu Andiko in Jakarta, on Sunday (11/5) night, reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 12.

The police Brigadier General said. Trunoyudo, this case began when there was a police report numbered LP/B/159/III/2025/SPKT on March 24, 2025.

Then, Dittipidsiber started the investigation process on April 7, 2025. In the process, investigators examined three witnesses and asked for information from five experts.

In addition, investigators also confiscated evidence, both from witnesses and suspects, and the evidence has been examined digitally for forensics.

Then, on May 6, 2025, investigators made an attempt to arrest SSS as the owner of social media account X who was suspected of violating the ITE Law.

"On suspicion of committing a criminal act of alleged manipulation or creating information or electronic documents that seem to be authentic data and/or uploading in the form of documents or images that have the content of violating decency," said Brigadier General Pol. Trunoyudo.

The SSS suspect began to be detained on May 7, 2025 until his detention was suspended on May 11, 2025.

Brigadier General Pol. Trunoyudo said that the suspension of detention was given by the investigators of the Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri on the basis of a request from the suspect SSS through his legal advisor and his parents.

In addition, the suspension was also given because of the good faith of the suspect SSS and his family to apologize for causing a commotion.

"This suspension of detention is certainly based on humanitarian aspects or approaches and provides opportunities for those concerned to continue their lectures," he said.

Furthermore, Brigadier General Pol. Trunoyudo said that the suspect SSS also apologized to President Prabowo Subianto and former President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and the ITB for his actions.

"The person concerned is very sorry and will not repeat his actions," he said.
