Reluctant To Take Public Transportation, Jakarta ASN Will Be Difficult To Take Position

JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized strict sanctions for state civil servants (ASN) within the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) who do not comply with the mandatory policy of increasing public transportation every Wednesday. The sanction is in the form of stopping the process of increasing positions during his leadership.

"For anyone who violates this policy as long as I lead, at least the next 5 years, don't expect to get promoted," Pramono said at the Local Eyes Fest event, Thursday, May 8 evening.

The policy is contained in Governor's Instruction Number 6 of 2025 concerning the Use of Mass Public Transportation for Employees within the Jakarta Provincial Government which requires all ASN and Jakarta Provincial Government employees to use public transportation every Wednesday.

This rule came into effect on Wednesday (30/4/2025) and immediately received a high level of compliance.

Pramono revealed, since the first day of implementation, ASN compliance reached 96%. The impact was also felt significant in the increase in the number of public transportation passengers, especially Transjakarta, which jumped from 1.2 million 1.25 million passengers per day to 1.4 million per day on the first Wednesday the policy was implemented.

"We want this habit not only as an order, but to become a new lifestyle for ASN. Public transportation is the future of Jakarta," said Pramono.

Pramono emphasized that this policy is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's efforts to reduce congestion and air pollution, two main problems that still haunt Jakarta.
