Yogyakarta DPRD Building From Malioboro Moves To Telan Walnut Costs IDR 293.8 Billion, Sultan HB X: Organizing City Faces

JAKARTA - Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X stated that the transfer of the DIY DPRD Building from the Malioboro area to Kenari Street was part of the arrangement of the face of the city of Yogyakarta to be more representative and functional.

"It's not just a technical matter, but a step to help organize the city's face, provide more representative space for legislative work, as well as harmonize democracy with urban spatial dynamics," said Sultan during the laying of the first stone for the construction of the new DIY DPRD building in Yogyakarta, Friday, April 25, confiscated by Antara.

Sultan said that the old DIY DPRD building located in the Malioboro area had witnessed the history of democratic travel in Yogyakarta. However, the development of the times and institutional needs demands the presence of a new space that is more adaptive and open.

The Governor of Yogyakarta hopes that the new five-story building, which was built with a budget of Rp293.8 billion, can become a "people's democratic house" that not only stands as a physical building, but also has a wide window on public aspirations.

Sultan also encouraged the DIY DPRD to start opening digital channels such as data engagement platforms and media analyzes that are able to capture and respond to people's voices in new ways.

"People's voices now not only flow from the pulpit or corner of the road, but are milling about in cyberspace," said Ngarsa Dalem.

Responding to the impact of budget efficiency on development, the Sultan explained that this depends on the policies and management of each region.

"The center is the APBN. If we have an APBN and there is an APBD. Yes, if we use the APBD, the issue of efficiency depends on the area itself," said Sultan.

Furthermore, the Sultan hopes that the new DPRD building can become a "Democracy Craftsman", namely the noble chamber of the aspiration guard, the license plate of policy, and the symbol of validity value.

The chairman of the DIY DPRD, Nuryadi, said that the construction of this new building represents people's houses that are more functional, inclusive, and in line with the spirit of the times.

"This building is a symbol of regional democracy, a place to meet ideas, dialogue, and aspirations that represent various interests of society," said Nuryadi.

He explained that the design of the DIY DPRD Building was designed with a holistic approach, combining physical aspects, Yogyakarta philosophy, and spatial planning that support public transparency and participation.

Nuryadi also invited all elements of society to oversee development with a target of completion in December 2026.

"God willing, this building will not only be a monument to development, but also a legacy for future generations," he said.

Meanwhile, DIY DPRD Secretary Yudi Ismono explained that the planning for the construction of new buildings since 2020 has been through a regional study by the DIY PUP-ESDM Service.

The COVID-19 pandemic had hampered the process. However, he said, it was resumed in 2022 by preparing detailed engineering design (DED), as well as environmental impact analysis (amdal) studies and traffic impact analysis (andalin) in 2023.
