JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reminded the Bogor Regency Government (Pemkab) to increase mitigation efforts following that two villages in Bogor Regency were flooded.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said that the floods that submerged two villages in Bojong Gede District, Bogor Regency, on Saturday, April 12, due to extreme weather heavy rains exacerbated the overflow of the Kali Pralayan.

"We received temporary data, the flood submerged two villages, namely Rawa Panjang Village and Pabuaran Village. A total of 213 families or 670 people were affected," he said in Jakarta, Monday, April 14, as reported by Antara.

BNPB confirmed that until at least Sunday, April 13, the flood had reportedly begun to recede and residents worked together to clean their homes and neighborhoods.

However, Abdul said, a joint team from the Bogor Regency BPBD was still at the location to carry out emergency handling, including the evacuation of residents.

In addition to flooding, the team was also deployed to overcome the impact of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that caused trees to fall and damaged houses in five other sub-districts, namely Cibinong, Caringin, Cigudeg, Ciomas, and Tenjolaya.

"The current condition has been conducive, and several houses have begun to be repaired. A total of 55 families or 154 people were affected and 42 housing units were reported to have been damaged," he said.

He explained that based on forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), extreme weather still has the potential to hit West Java Province, including Bogor Regency and its surroundings in the next few days. The disruption of atmospheric dynamics and also the ongoing transition season factors also affected the weather conditions.

For this reason, BNPB asks local governments to further ensure the readiness of personnel, equipment, and other resources in the face of potential wet hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, landslides, and strong winds.

Meanwhile, the public is advised to always follow official information from government institutions, and not be easily influenced by unverified news while still increasing awareness of potential disasters.

"Simply if there is heavy rain for more than an hour and visibility of less than 100 meters, immediately evacuate independently to a safer place," he said.
