Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) Satriadi Gunawan said his staff were not on leave during the Eid holiday period. They remain alert to deal with fires and rescues when people go home and celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
This was revealed by Satriadi after the fire and rescue preparedness rally led by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung.
"Earlier, the Governor conveyed that 170 fire stations were not on leave. So, everything was on call," said Satriadi at the DKI Jakarta Gulkarmat Service Office, Central Jakarta, Monday, March 24.
Firefighters, continued Satriadi, will still receive a quota of leave in the future. This is done so that the potential for fires can still be anticipated during the Eid holidays.
"So we have arranged everything during the holiday, the opportunity for leave will be postponed. So, what is certain is that we will arrange everything not to be empty," he said.
On that occasion, Satriadi appealed to Jakarta residents to ensure that their respective homes were safe when they were left to their hometowns to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
"Pastikan rumah dalam keadaan aman, pastikan kolokan listrik tercabut. Kemudian kirimahkan rmah ke depan sebelah, kalau memang ada petitkan ke tempatnya," tutur Satriadi.
Previously, Pramono Pramono Anung promised to increase the number of Gulkarmat Service officers. Recruitment of firefighters will be carried out this year.
"If you look at the challenges, numbers, existing circumstances, then I will open up space for this year to be held (recruitment of firefighters)," said Pramono.
Pramono admitted that he did not know the number of officer formations to be recruited. He will summon the Head of the DKI Gulkarmat Service to map the number of needs of firefighters. What is clear, there are certain criteria needed in his recruitment.
"I asked several firefighters, on average, they have a duty of 25-30 years. This means that people who work like those in the fire department work a long time. So, the long life empowerment they really enjoy, likes the existing work. If this is a humanitarian job, so that is the factor for recruiting new firefighters," explained Pramono.
Pramono admitted that the number of Bakadan firefighters in Jakarta really needs to be increased. Because, not only tackling the red rooster, the ranks of the Gulkarmat Service are also often relied on by people who need rescue help.
Throughout 2024, there were 1,969 fire cases handled by Gulkarmat Service officers. Then, the officers also handled around 6,800 rescue cases.

"This means that public trust in the fire department is quite high, there are almost 6,800 cases. Thus, I specifically order the head of the service and all ranks to build public trust. This needs to be improved," he explained.
