SEMARANG - The police have named the Head of the Rehabilitation Foundation for Recipient Recipients of Lapor (IPWL) in Semarang City with the initials SYN as a suspect in a case of abuse that killed one of the patients who will undergo treatment at the place.

Semarang Police Chief Kombes Pol. M. Syahduddi said SYN was named a suspect along with the 11 caretakers of the foundation.

According to him, the case that killed YRA, a resident of Kendal Regency, began when the head of the IPWL Foundation received a complaint from the victim's mother on March 2, 2025.

The victim's mother asked the suspect to pick up his son to be rehabilitated at the drug addict rehabilitation foundation.

"The suspect ordered four people to pick up the victim at his uncle's house in Weleri," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 17.

He said the abuse was carried out during a trip from Kendal to Semarang and at the rehabilitation site because the victim struggled and resisted.

Every patient who enters the foundation for rehabilitation must also undergo a tradition in the form of being beaten by officers at the place.

The suspects, he continued, had various roles in the incident.

The injured and unconscious victim was rushed to the hospital before finally being declared dead.

From the autopsy results, he continued, it was known that the victim died due to blunt force violence in the head which resulted in bleeding.

For their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code regarding beatings or Article 351 of the Criminal Code regarding persecution that killed a person.
