GORONTALO - Governor of Gorontalo, Gusnar Ismail highlighted the livestock and agricultural sectors in his province which continued to stretch. 301 cows were sent to Kalimantan Island along with 14 thousand tons of corn to Jakarta and Padang.

"Of course it will have an impact on the economic revival in the area in a short time," he said in Gorontalo, citing ANTARA on Sunday, March 16.

"I am proud to be able to send these two leading commodities of Gorontalo," he said, who directly released the two commodities at two different ports, namely Kwandang Harbor and Orchids in North Gorontalo.

The details are 118 cows heading to East Kalimantan and 183 to North Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, for corn, 8,000 tons to Padang and 6,000 tons to Jakarta.

Gusnar assessed that this stretched agricultural sector activity is a good sign for the regional economy.

This is in line with his vision to make Gorontalo advanced and prosperous with one of the priority programs becoming a maritime agro area.

"Why optimistic? Because most of our people are engaged in agriculture, both food and livestock. Corn and livestock fill each other. So that's what we encourage," said Gusnar.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency shows that the economic growth of Gorontalo Province in 2024 is 4.13 percent.

This figure is still less than 2023 reaching 4.50 percent.

The concept of inclusive maritime agro is believed to be able to boost this number by 2025.

"Our challenge is the agricultural product processing industry. We want a lot of investment to come in for the meat and corn processing industry, so that the selling value increases," he added.

Feelings of optimism also came from corn entrepreneurs, as said by the Commissioner of PT Gorontalo Pangan Sejahtera Suwandi.

He assessed that Gorontalo's corn production was quite good in early 2025. The price of corn is also very good at IDR 5,500 per kilogram (kg) with a water level of 14 percent.

"In my opinion, the 53,000 corn sent is quite good, right, because this is also not all harvested, right. So as an entrepreneur, we are optimistic that corn production can continue to increase at least the same as the previous year at 500-600 thousand tons," said Suwandi.
