JAKARTA - Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak ensured that his staff would submit to the final results of the discussion on the revision of the TNI Law which is currently being rolled out in the DPR.

"If later the decision is like that, yes we will join. We will be loyal one hundred percent to the decision," Maruli said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 12.

This statement was made by Maruli in response to the polemic that occurred in the public regarding several points of revision of the TNI Law, such as the addition of the retirement age of TNI officers to active soldiers who were allowed to enter government agencies.

According to Maruli, the public does not need to polemic about the policy of increasing retirement age. The reason is that these points are still being discussed at the DPR level and have not become binding laws.

In addition, the public through their representatives in the DPR is also entitled to criticize the points in the TNI Bill regarding the addition of the retirement age.

"Please, what will be the state's policy later," said Maruli.

The same thing, continued Maruli, also applies to points regarding civil office that can be entered by active officers of the TNI.

According to Maruli, the fear that was built in the community for Indonesia's return to the dwi-function of ABRI in the new order era was too excessive.

"So there's no need to make a fuss in the media, that's it, it's a new order. I think that's a bad idea," said Maruli.

Maruli assessed that these issues seemed to attack the Indonesian Army institution, thus worsening people's perception of their ranks.

According to Maruli, so far all active officers who enter civil institutions have a good background of achievements and are in accordance with the relevant civil institutions.

Maruli continued, they have also gone through proper selection procedures so that they are deemed appropriate to occupy positions in the position of these civilian agencies.

"We see members of the Indonesian Army have potential, please discuss whether we can register or have a trial or determined by the President, go ahead. But don't attack the institution," said Maruli.

Maruli believes that TNI officers who currently occupy civilian positions have carried out their responsibilities well.

Maruli hopes that the meeting process regarding the revision of the TNI Law which is being discussed in the DPR can produce the right law to answer the nation's needs.
