Police Reveal CCTV Evidence In UKI Student Death Case

JAKARTA The police revealed surveillance camera (CCTV) footage in the campus area of the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) which showed an argument to a commotion before the death of a UKI student, Kenzha Walewangko (22), on Tuesday, March 4.

East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Nicolas Ary Lilipaly said that this CCTV footage is one of the pieces of evidence that is being analyzed by the police to reveal the incident.

"We have obtained CCTV and are currently being analyzed as part of the evidence collected. The footage shows the incident around the first crime scene (TKP), including when the victim and several other people were drinking, there was a verbal altercation, to a small commotion involving campus security officers," said Kombes Nicolas in UKI Cawang, East Jakarta, Friday, March 7.

In addition, CCTV footage shows that the victim, Kenzha Walewangko, was escorted outside the campus fence by several people.

"It was also seen on CCTV how many people took the victim out of the fence and told him to go home. However, for the moment at the time of the main incident, we are still conducting further analysis," he explained.

Nicolas emphasized that the area where the victim allegedly fell, namely near a fence and ditch, was not monitored by CCTV. Therefore, the police are still investigating other evidence to clarify the chronology of the incident.

Investigation Continues With Evidence Analysis

In this investigation, the police relied on four main pieces of evidence, namely:

Witness testimony

Documents or letters

Guidelines from experts

The suspect's statement (if it has been determined)

"These four pieces of evidence that we are still pursuing to clarify whether this case is a criminal incident or not. In the investigation process, at least two strong pieces of evidence are needed to identify suspects and reveal criminal acts clearly," added Nicolas.

Currently, the East Jakarta Metro Police are still collecting evidence that can support the investigation based on the testimony of witnesses. Nicolas also hopes that no wild opinion will develop during the investigation process.

Examination Of 18 Witnesses And Scientific Approaches

So far, the police have examined 18 witnesses related to the death of Kenzha Ezra Walewangko. Of these, 13 are students, the other four are security officers who were on duty at the time of the incident, and one person is the campus authority.

In addition, the East Jakarta Metro Police also used a scientific investigation approach or Scientific Crime Investigation (SCI) to reveal the chronology of events and causes of death of these students.

"This scientific approach is needed so that the investigation can be more objective and accurate in revealing what really happened," concluded Nicolas.
