BMKG Forecasts There Is Still Potential For Rain At The End Of The Month Ahead Of Eid

JAKARTA - Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati said there was still potential for rain in the period late March 2025 before Eid al-Fitr. The government is preparing weather modification operations to anticipate extreme weather.

"Earlier I said, so the last 10 days of March there was still rain. It could be heavy rain too, but the duration is short, weaker than it is today," said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 5.

He said there is the potential for extreme weather with a short duration that will be anticipated with weather modifications ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

Weather modifications have begun to be carried out at this time to reduce rainfall in flood-affected areas that inundate a number of areas, including Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi, Depok, and Tangerang.

"April has started to dry, so God willing, it will be better. There may be extreme weather, but the duration is short. But we are preparing for weather modifications if detected, extremes can be detected," he added.

The government's own weather modifications are planned to be carried out until March 8, 2025 and will be stopped when the analysis shows better weather developments.

However, Dwikorita warned that there is still an increasing trend of rainfall in the period March 11, 2025, to March 20, 2025. With the BMKG predicting the potential for heavy rain or even extreme weather in that period.

Previously, the government began a weather modification operation which was carried out from last Tuesday (4/3) to March 8, 2025.

With this operation, rain clouds are sprinkled by sprinkling NaCl or salt in areas that are not above land or when they are above land then sprinkled, so that not all clouds rain.
