Minister Karding: Students Can Play A Role In Migrant Workers Education

JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding asked the student to participate in informing the public about migrant workers.

This was conveyed when receiving an audience from Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) at the KemenP2MI office, Jakarta on Tuesday, March 4.

According to him, UNU has branches in many areas, such as in Cirebon, which can enrich the public in obtaining comprehensive information regarding working abroad.

"We need a team of students to participate in campaigning for migrant workers, especially in Cirebon. Pockets are like their KKN, but one of the modules is maybe migrants," said Minister Karding.

In addition, it is also conveyed that if it reduces the domestic unemployment rate and encourages and at the same time facilitates people who have the competence to want to work abroad, it is their responsibility as government representatives.

Therefore, his ministry, said Karding, will continue to improve the capabilities of human resources (HR). Thus, they can compete with migrant workers from other countries.

"Because we have an obligation to increase or reduce domestic workers or low skills. The consequence of this target is that we must boost training, increase human resources," he said.

"We can only do this training today in collaboration with all parties who approximately have training places and have the potential to train, be it language training or other soft skills, or skills according to work positions from the destination country," continued Karding.

On the other hand, Karding hopes that in the future UNU can contribute to providing understanding to the community in terms of training and protection of working abroad.

"So maybe with UNU (University of Nahdlatul Ulama) it can take on a role in training or in protection," said Karding.
