Tragedy Of A 3-year-old Boy Drowning During Evacuation, South Jakarta Mayor: "Hopefully This Child Brings Pahala For Parents"

JAKARTA - Floods that hit the South Jakarta area again claimed lives. A boy with the initials A (3) was found dead after being swept away by the current of the Ciliwung River during the evacuation process in Kebon Baru, Tebet, on Tuesday, March 4.

This tragic incident occurred when volunteers were evacuating residents using rubber boats, but the swift current caused the boat to capsize and the victim was washed away. The South Jakarta Administrative City Government (South Jakarta City Government) has confirmed that it will help all the needs of the victim's funeral.

The Mayor of South Jakarta, Munjirin, expressed his condolences during a visit to the victim's funeral home in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 5. He hopes that the victim's family will be given fortitude and strength to face this disaster.

"Of course we hope that this child will bring rewards to his parents," said Munjirin.

As a form of concern, the South Jakarta City Government will bear all funeral needs, including body equipment to funerals at the Menteng Pulo Public Cemetery.

"The completeness of the bodies is like cloth and others, until we have taken care of the funeral," he added.

During his visit, Munjirin was accompanied by the sub-district head, village head, and other ranks who also provided assistance to the families of the victims. He also emphasized that his party had coordinated with various parties to carry out maximum flood management in the South Jakarta area.

"Especially for cleaning, all ranks must come down to help residents. All ranks, including ASN, PJLP, and other elements, we encourage them to continue to come down to help deal with post-disaster management," he said.

Previously, a two-year-old boy with the initials A was swept away by the current of the Ciliwung River when a team of volunteers evacuated flood victims using a rubber boat. However, due to the too strong current, the boat capsized and caused the victim to be swept away. Local residents reported the incident to the Tebet Police, and after the water conditions receded and the electricity turned on again, the victim's body was found near his house dead on Wednesday (5/3) at around 01.00 WIB in the morning.
