JAKARTA Heavy rains that flushed South Jakarta from night until morning caused flooding in a number of areas, including in East Pejaten, Pasar Minggu. According to data from the DKI Jakarta BPBD, the water level in the area reaches 1.2 meters.

Maulana (36), a resident of RT 05/08 Pejaten Timur, said that the water began to enter his house when he and his family were about to suhoor, at around 03.00 WIB.

"When we wanted to meet, the water had started to rise. So instead of eating, we were busy lifting goods and food so as not to be submerged," said Maulana, Tuesday, March 4.

Maulana lives with her wife, children, and parents. He was grateful that important documents could still be saved, but some electronic items such as refrigerators could not be saved.

According to him, the water continued to rise until it reached its peak at 10.00 WIB. He suspects that the flood this time was exacerbated by water sent from Bogor which caused the Ciliwung River to overflow.

"Rain started to fall since 11 pm, the remaining water from last night was still there, then more water was sent from Bogor or Depok," he explained.

Floods in the area are nothing new. Maulana said that almost every year East Pejaten was hit by floods, but there were three most severe incidents, namely in 2007, 2020, and now in 2024.

"The worst was in 2007 until the suspension bridge broke, then 2020, and now this," he said.

He hopes that the government can find a solution so that similar incidents do not continue to repeat itself in the future.

"Hopefully it won't flood again," concluded Maulana.
