Mount Dukono Volcanic Ash Semburan Soars Up To 1,900 Meters

The effectiveness of the eruption of Mount Dukono in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku has occurred again. The Volcano Observation Post (PGA) of Dukono reported that the mountain emitted volcanic ash up to 1,900 meters high.

"It is true that this morning Mount Dukono erupted with an ash column height of 1,900 meters above the top of the mountain," said an officer of the Dukono PGA Post in North Halmahera Regency, Bambang Sugiono, when confirmed by ANTARA from Ternate, quoted from ANTARA, Sunday, March 2 afternoon.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity leaning towards the east and this eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and a duration of 60.22 seconds.

He revealed that currently the condition of the volcano as high as 1,087 meters above sea level is still at Level II or Alert.

Therefore, people around Dukono Volcano and visitors or tourists are still prohibited from doing activities, climbing, and approaching the Maupang Warirang Crater within a 4 kilometer radius.

"Considering that eruptions with volcanic ash periodically occur and the distribution of ash follows the direction and speed of the wind, so that the ash land area does not remain," he said.

Pos PGA Dukono juga meminta kepada masyarakat di sekitar Gunung Dukono untuk selalu menyediakan masker/penutup nasal dan mulut untuk digunakan pada saat diperlukan, guna menghindari ancaman bahaya muslim api pada sistem pengah.
