JAKARTA - The Bali Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Center (BP3MI) helps oversee five prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) who are suspected of being victims of fraudulent work placements abroad.

The investigation of this case was also assisted by the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the Bali Police, which is currently in the file stage and the three suspects are fully prepared for trial.

"3 suspects, namely YAP as the director of PT. Bintang Mandiri Internasional, whose status is currently DPO, and 2 (two) people, namely MYP and MDR," read the report from BP3MI Bali received, Thursday, February 27.

This case started when five CPMIs registered with a company to be able to work in the plantation sector in New Zealand. However, after registering and paying some money, they never left the company, namely PT Bintang Mandiri Internasional.

Furthermore, the 5 CPMIs conducted consultations and reported the alleged fraud to BP3MI Bali. BP3MI Bali then conducted an in-depth investigation and found that PT Bintang Mandiri Internasional was not registered as PT Perusahaan Penempatan Pekerja Migrant Indonesia (P3MI).

"Tracing data is obtained, that PT is not registered as P3MI," wrote the Bali BP3MI report.

Then, BP3MI Bali assisted 5 CPMIs to report this alleged fraud to the Bali Police.

Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding has suggested that Indonesian migrant workers who wish to work abroad comply with the regulations and prepare the predetermined documents.

Minister Karding said departing officially would make it easier for the government to protect Indonesian migrant workers abroad.

"The message to the public that if you want to work abroad, it must be according to procedures, so that the government can protect and be present in this context," said Minister Karding.
