Tom Lembong Hopes Truth Is Revealed In Court

JAKARTA - The suspect in the corruption case of sugar importation at the Ministry of Trade in 2015 '2016, Thomas Trikasih Lembong (TTL) or Tom Lembong, hopes that the truth will be revealed in court.

This statement was Tom's answer when asked by reporters about his hope that after the case file was transferred by investigators at the Jampidsus Attorney General's Office (AGO) to the public prosecutor (JPU) of the Central Jakarta District Attorney's Office (Kejari) to be tried immediately.

"Of course, the truth is still. So that the truth is revealed," he said at the Central Jakarta Kejari building, Jakarta, Friday, February 14.

Tom also complained about the length of his investigation and his detention period.

"I've been detained for 3 months. So, it took me a bit of a process," he said.

Therefore, he also hopes that the truth can be revealed in court.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Jakarta Prosecutor's Office, Safrianto Zuriat Putra, said that on Friday his party received the delegation of suspects and evidence of the two suspects in the case on behalf of Tom Lembong and Charles Sitorus.

After being delegated, he said, both of them will undergo detention for the next 20 days, starting from February 14, 2025 to March 5, 2025.

"TTL is being held at the Salemba Rutan, South Jakarta District Attorney's Branch, while Charles Sitorus or CS is being held at the Salemba Rutan, the Attorney General's Branch. Each for the next 20 days while waiting for the public prosecutor to complete and complete the indictment," he said.

The indictment prepared will be submitted at the stage of transferring the case file to the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court.

The AGO named 11 suspects in the case. Two of them are Tom Lembong as Minister of Trade for the 2015'2016 period and Charles Sitorus (CS) as Director of Business Development of PT PPI.

Investigators assess that both of them have illegally imported sugar at the 2015-2016 Ministry of Trade.

Their actions are considered to have benefited other parties and resulted in state financial losses of Rp578 billion based on the audit report on the calculation of state financial losses by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
