Firli Bahuri's Case, Kortas Corruption Police Talks About Withdrawing Handling To Forced Pick-up

JAKARTA - The Head of the Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor) of the National Police, Inspector General Cahyono Wibowo, stated that he did not rule out the possibility of withdrawing the handling of cases of alleged extortion or receiving gratuities that had named the former Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Firli Bahuri, as a suspect.

The case of alleged extortion and or acceptance of gratuities is currently being handled by the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) Polda Metro Jaya.

"It is possible to withdraw it," said Cahyono to reporters, Thursday, February 13.

However, for now, the investigation process by Polda Metro Jaya is considered to show good progress. In fact, Ditreskrimsus has a commitment to resolve the case.

This commitment was emphasized even though there were technical obstacles faced, such as the absence of Firli Bahuri on the summons for examination some time ago.

"But so far we have seen it running. Then we just have to see how the action is in accordance with the due process of law. Yesterday we were summoned, he was not present. Now maybe we will take the next steps according to the provisions of the rules," he said.

Not only the option to withdraw the handling of cases, but Cahyono also stated that there is a potential for investigators to take firm action in the form of orders to bring or forcefully pick them up.

The goal is so that Firli Bahuri's statement can be obtained in the investigation process. Moreover, the case is currently in the stage of completing the case file.

"Maybe whether he was called again, only with orders to bring or whatever. Talking about due process of law has that authority," he said.

"The order to bring it may exist, it is possible," continued Cahyono.

Apart from that option, Cahyono assessed that the quality of the investigation that had been running was quite strong. So it is believed that the handling of the case will be completed even though the time has not been confirmed.

"In terms of quality, I see that based on this evidence, it is quite strong. The evidence also has good quality so that we have the conclusion and belief that this can be completed," said Cahyono.

In the case of alleged extortion and or acceptance of gratuities against former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL, the suspect Firli Bahuri is known to have been absent several times from the investigation.

In an effort to complete the case files, investigators have examined a number of other witnesses, including former Minister of Agriculture or Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo, former Director of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery of the Ministry of Agriculture Muhammad Hatta; and Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Kasdi Subagyono.
