Allegedly Extortion, Bireuen Police Chief AKBP Jatmiko And Wife Examined By Propam Aceh Police

BANDA ACEH - Bireuen Police Chief AKBP Jatmiko was questioned by the Aceh Police Propam on suspicion of extortion and extortion against a number of agencies in Bireuen Regency, as well as internal local police.

Propam also questioned AKBP Jatmiko's wife who is also a policewoman on duty at the Bireuen Police with the initials AKP T and a number of officers from the Bireun Police on suspicion of extortion.

The alleged extortion case by the Head of the Bireuen Police, AKBP Jatmiko, was reported by an anonymous source through a canned letter and had gone viral on WhatsApp groups. In the report, it was stated that 38 allegations of extortion were carried out by Jatmiko.

The Head of Propam of the Aceh Police, Kombes Eddwi Kurniyanto, said that his investigators had summoned the Head of the Bireuen Police, AKBP Jatmiko and his wife, to be questioned regarding the alleged abuse of authority.

"We have examined it to this day. We have examined the police chief and his wife, the witness have been examined," said Eddwi, Wednesday, February 12.

Eddwi, the results of the examination and investigation will continue to be submitted to the Police Propam Division for follow-up. "Handling will later be delegated to the National Police Propam," he said.

The Head of Public Relations of the Aceh Police, Kombes Joko Krisdiyanto, said that his party would not tolerate any form of abuse of his staff's position.

"We understand the public's concerns about this issue, and we emphasize that the Aceh Police will carry out an objective and open investigation. There is no room for irregularities within the police. We also ask the public not to be influenced by unverified information," said Joko.

Joko asked the public to wait for the results of an official investigation into the alleged extortion case by the Head of the Bireuen Police.

The Aceh Regional Police, he continued, had asked the Inspectorate of Police Headquarters to participate in overseeing the case. If there is a violation, then firm action will be taken in accordance with applicable law.

The Aceh Regional Police promised to open access for the media and NGOs to follow the development of the case. The Aceh Police will also coordinate with the National Police Commission and the Ombudsman to ensure the objectivity of the examination.

"We want to emphasize that the police are working to serve and protect the public, not to abuse their authority. Therefore, we ask all parties to remain calm and not to be easily provoked by issues that do not yet have a solid basis," he said regarding the handling of the alleged extortion case of the Bireuen police chief.
