Following Up On The Alleged Report Of The Cassation Council Ronald Tannur Langgar Ethics, KY Has Examined Witnesses

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Judicial Commission (KY) Supervision and Investigation Division Joko Sasmito said his party had examined witnesses as a follow-up to reports of alleged ethical violations by the cassation panel of judges handling the case of Gregorius Ronald Tannur.

Joko during an online press conference attended from Jakarta, Wednesday, explained that the witnesses who had been examined included former Supreme Court (MA) official Zarof Ricar (ZR) and legal adviser Ronald Tannur, Lisa Rachmat (LR).

"The progress is that we have not yet reached the stage of examining the panel of judges reported (the appeal panel, ed.). But what we have tried is [checking] the complainant and the witness. At that time we examined, for example, witness ZR and witness LR," said Joko, confiscated by Antara.

The two witnesses are already defendants in the alleged bribery and gratification case regarding the acquittal of Ronald Tannur. ZR and LR are currently in trial at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN).

KY participated in monitoring the trial of ZR and LR. KY also monitored the trial of three other defendants in the same case, namely three judges from the Surabaya District Court who sentenced them to acquittal: Erintuah Damanik, Mangapul, and Heru Hanindyo.

On the other hand, KY has summoned witnesses from the Supreme Court, namely the assistant attorney general and substitute clerk from the cassation panel. However, the witnesses were unable to attend so KY scheduled a recall.

"As a follow-up, KY has rescheduled to examine additional witnesses in mid-February 2025 so that additional evidence can be obtained," said Joko.

Furthermore, KY has not yet summoned the panel of cassation judges, namely Supreme Court Justices Soesilo, Sutarjo, and Ainal Mardhiah, as the reported judges. However, it is possible that KY will summon the three Supreme Court justices if needed.

"That later if there is an indication and it is necessary, of course we will continue the examination of the judge. However, until today it is still at the stage [of examination] of witnesses," said KY Member and Spokesperson Mukti Fajar Nur Dewata on the same occasion.

Previously, Dini's lawyer, Sera Afrianti (DSA), the murder victim Ronald Tannur, reported three Supreme Court justices who handled Ronald Tannur's case at the cassation level to KY on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

The alleged involvement of the panel of judges in the polemic of the Ronald Tannur case emerged after ZR, a former MA official, was named a suspect in the alleged bribery conspiracy by the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

During a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Monday, February 10, ZR was charged with conspiracy in the form of assistance to give or promise something to the judge, namely Rp5 billion in handling Ronald Tannur's case at the cassation level.

The AGO public prosecutor explained that the conspiracy was allegedly carried out with legal adviser Ronald Tannur, LR, with the aim of bribery to Supreme Court Justice Soesilo as chairman of the cassation panel in the Ronald Tannur case.
