Minister Of Health Targets 3,113 Hospitals In Indonesia To Implement Standard Inpatient Class Starting June 2025

Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin targets all hospitals (RS) to have implemented the Standard Inpatient Class (KRIS) by June 2025.

"Of the 3,228 hospitals, there are 115 hospitals that we do not include their obligations for KRIS, there are 3,113. Now this is half-hearted, yes, there are fewer private sectors and then there are government hospitals," said Minister of Health Budi during a meeting with the DPR which was watched online in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He explained that in 2024 the number of hospital beds was 389 thousand, higher than 2022. Then, he said, Class 3 beds rose to around 142 thousand from the previous 130 thousand.

"It turns out that the additional beds are 5 thousand per year, the current business development," said Minister of Health Budi.

The Minister of Health assessed that the development of the number of beds was also due to improvements in the health system, the more adequate medical equipment, as well as a better BPJS system. In addition, he said, the increase in the number of 3rd class beds is beneficial for the general public.

"What does that mean? With this KRIS adjustment, hospitals reduce their Class 1 and VIP beds, adding class 3 beds which we think are actually good, for the general public. Unless we look at them from the hospital side, from the perspective of the hospital and the perspective of the rich," said the Minister of Health.

Minister of Health Budi said KRIS is an effort to increase standard health services, so that patients are more comfortable when being treated. It is also to avoid the risk of reinfection because hospitals contain many pathogens, bacteria, and viruses.

He gave an example, according to a study from his side, many hospitals with one room can be filled by six to eight patients. In comfort and health, he said, this was not good, so that in that standard, the maximum number of patients was limited to four.

There are 12 standards set out in this policy, including indoor bathrooms, oxygen outlets, and adequate ventilation.

Regarding the implementation, he explained that currently there are 600 hospitals that have met 12 KRIS standards, out of 2,766 hospitals that have been validated by the Health Office in the regions.
