JAKARTA - The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said he was concerned about the conditions of tourism in Jakarta during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Tourism projections in Jakarta are concerned, because in Jakarta we see that we are still on a micro scale. Of course we have to monitor the reduction in COVID-19," Sandiaga Uno said when visiting the City Hall of DKI, Monday, April 19.

Sandiaga said the tourism sector experienced a slight increase in income during the long Easter holiday some time ago. However, the tourism business is still experiencing losses.

"The hotel occupancy rate is low, still below 40 percent of the hotel occupancy rate. 80 percent of the event is delayed. 47 percent of MICE activities are canceled," he said.

Sandiaga admitted that tourism projections would depend on the amount of reduction in COVID-19. Therefore, he asked the public to adhere to health protocols when doing activities so that COVID-19 cases continue to decline.

"If we can continue to suppress (the COVID-19 number), I am more optimistic that in the second semester it will rise again," he said.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was still waiting for the central government's direction regarding the opening of tourism spots in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is because the decision is entirely in the hands of the central Covid-19 Handling Task Force.

"Regarding the opening, everything is integrated, we are currently in discussion. But there are indeed discussions," said Anies.

Anies promised to immediately announce the opening of tourism which was still closed and limited if it had received approval from the central government. "When it's finished, we'll tell you," he concluded.
