Soekarno-Hatta Customs Thwarts Narcotics Smuggling, Three Suspects Arrested

Soekarno-Hatta Airport Customs And Excise managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle narcotics at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang City

TANGERANG - Soekarno-Hatta Airport Customs and Excise managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle narcotics and arrest two suspects who arrived at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang City, on the Kuala Lumpur Cengkareng route (KUL-CGK). The mode used is to hide narcotics in a baggage suitcase.

Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Customs Office, Gatot Sugeng Wibowo, said the disclosure took place on December 13. He said the two suspects had the initials ST and YP.

"This action succeeded in securing two suspects along with narcotics evidence in the form of approximately 1,100 grams of methamphetamine or methamphetamine," Gatot told reporters at Customs and Excise at Soetta Airport, Monday, January 20.

Gatot explained that the disclosure began with the arrival of a passenger with the initials YP who arrived at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The Customs and Excise conducted an examination of the suitcase he was carrying, and the results were found that 1,100 grams of methamphetamine was found.

"We found 4 plastic packages containing clear crystals suspected of being narcotics, with a gross weight of a total of 1,100 grams. After testing using narcotics test kits and laboratory tests, the results were positive for narcotics class 1 type of methamphetamine," he said.

"The passenger was also tested for urine which showed positive results of Methamphetamine/Shabu and Amphetamine," continued Gatot.

Based on the results of further investigations, Soetta Customs and Excise coordinated with the Narcotics Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police to investigate this case. From YP's statement, it is known that the narcotics smuggling operation was controlled by a person with the initials RP, a man from Aceh.

YP was told to deliver the narcotics to a man with the initials ST who was at a hotel in Tangerang City.

"Based on development, the joint team managed to secure ST as a pick-up for goods at a hotel in Tangerang, Banten," said Gatot.

Gatot also mentioned that the Directorate General of Customs and Excise Aceh (DJBC) managed to arrest RP on January 1, 2025, upon arrival at Aceh Airport.

"From these arrests, 22 grams of methamphetamine was successfully secured," he added.

For their actions, the three suspects were charged with Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with the threat of a maximum sentence of death or life imprisonment.
