JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the DPR Mohammad Toha assessed that improving the political system by revising the Political Law package was a challenge for President Prabowo Subianto's government.
This was said by Toha in response to 100 working days of the Prabowo government which received high public satisfaction. According to him, Prabowo's government needs seriousness in the next five years.
"This is a tough challenge for President Prabowo. It takes seriousness and hard work to face the challenges ahead," said Toha, Monday, January 20.
For example, continued Toha, related to the implementation of the presidential election (Pilpres) and legislative elections (Pileg). The PKB legislator said that his party proposed that the implementation of the legislative and presidential elections be separated, namely, the legislative elections before the presidential election.
During the two elections held simultaneously, according to Toha, the public will focus more on the presidential election, so that the legislative elections do not get attention.
"All concentrations are sucked into the implementation of the presidential election. Finally, the legislative candidates who fight in the legislative election do not get the attention of the community. The presidential election is more in demand," said Toha.
In addition to the legislative and presidential elections, Toha assessed that the implementation of the regional elections must also be improved. PKB, he said, had proposed that the provincial-level regional elections or governor elections be carried out through the provincial DPRD, no longer through direct elections by the public.
Toha assessed that the direct election for governors was considered ineffective and efficient, because it took a very large budget. With the election of governors through the DPRD, budget savings can be made.
"Regional autonomy is actually also at the district and city levels. Not at the provincial level. So there needs to be direct regional elections at the governor's level, it's enough through the DPRD," he explained.
The Central Java electoral district legislator said that the improvement of the political system could be done by revising the Political Law package through the omnibus law system which would combine many laws, such as the Election Law, Pilkada, Political Parties, and other laws.

The next challenge, continued Toha, is the transfer of the capital city and state civil servants (ASN) to IKN. "The moving of the capital city is not easy, it takes careful preparation from the government and should not be rushed," he said.
Toha emphasized that the target of the Capital Archipelago Authority (OIKN) must be more realistic and implement a measurable development achievement target (milestone). This is because the 2025 State Budget for IKN is still IDR 6.3 trillion from the draft budget of IDR 400.3 trillion.
"Likewise, regarding the transfer of ASN to IKN. Kemenpan RB must wait for the directives and presidential regulations (Perpres). It is not easy for ASN to move to IKN. Apart from infrastructure, they must also adapt to the environment," he concluded.
