Learning From Mbak Ita's Case, KPK Reminds It Is Important To Implement An Integrable Education Ecosystem

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the implementation of an ecosystem with integrity in the education sector was very important. The case of the procurement of goods and services in the Semarang City Government that ensnared the Mayor of Semarang Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu or Mbak Ita should be a reminder.

This was conveyed by the KPK Spokesperson Team Budi Prasetyo regarding the case that ensnared Mbak Ita. It is known that the anti-corruption commission is investigating three allegations of corruption at the Semarang City Government, including those related to the procurement of tables, chairs, and other fabrication in elementary schools (SD).

"KPK has also intensely encouraged the application of the anti-corruption curriculum at every level of education as well as the implementation of an ecosystem in the world of education with integrity," Budi said in a written statement quoted on Monday, January 20.

Not only that, the anti-corruption commission has actually implemented a number of corruption prevention within the Semarang City Government. This city even got a score of 97 on the 2024 monitoring center for prevention (MCP) instrument.

Thus, the determination of Mbak Ita as a suspect in alleged corruption is actually very unfortunate by the KPK. "The commitment to prevent corruption measured through MCP must be followed by an individual commitment to truly maintain the values of integrity and anti-corruption," he said.

Previously reported, the KPK had detained two suspects in a corruption case within the Semarang City Government (Pemkot), Central Java on Friday, January 17. They are Martono who is the Chairman of the Association of Indonesian National Construction Implementers (Gapensi) of Semarang City and Rachmat Djangkar.

Martono was detained for allegedly participating in receiving gratuities together with the Mayor of Semarang Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu alias Mbak Ita and her husband, Alwin Basri who also serves as Chairman of Commission D of the Central Java Provincial DPRD.

Meanwhile, Rachmat was detained for allegedly giving bribes related to the procurement of tables and elementary school chairs at the Semarang City Education Office.

As for this case, three alleged corruption cases are suspected and are being investigated. In detail, the procurement of goods and services at the Semarang City Government in 2023-2024, the alleged extortion of civil servants related to incentives for collecting taxes and levies in the Semarang City area as well as the alleged receipt of gratuities in 2023-2024.

KPK investigators have also conducted searches in various locations, including in the cities of Semarang, Kudus, and Salatiga. From this forced effort, documents and cash worth Rp1 billion were found; 9,650 euros; as well as dozens of watch units suspected of being linked to this case.
