Israel Continues To Launch Operations In Southern Lebanon, UN Secretary General Urges To Stop Immediately

JAKARTA - Military operations and "invasion" by the Israeli regime in southern Lebanon, nearly two months after the ceasefire, must be stopped, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged.

This was conveyed by Guterres while visiting the headquarters of the UN Temporary Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which was in the city of Naqura in southern Lebanon on Friday (17/1).

It also poses a continuing risk to the safety and security of the troops stationed there, hence Israel "must stop".

Based on the resolution of the UN Security Council 1701, only the Lebanese military and UNIFIL forces have the right to carry out operations in southern Lebanon.

Guterres' visit comes ahead of January 26 for the full implementation of the November 27 ceasefire between Lebanese fighting group Hezbollah and the Israeli regime.

It should be noted that the supervisory committee consisting of representatives of Lebanon, the regimes of Israel, France, the United States and UNIFIL are tasked with reporting any violations of Resolution 1701.
