JAKARTA - The PP Muhammadiyah Public Legal Aid and Advocacy Institute (LBHAP) will officially report the 30-16 kilometer sea fence installation scandal in Tangerang Regency to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Headquarters on Friday, January 17 afternoon.

"We, the Muhammadiyah PP LBHAP together with the civil society coalition, will visit the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta to submit an official complaint report regarding the sea fencing scandal on the north coast of Tangerang Regency, Banten," said the Head of Research and Public Advocacy for LBH PP Muhammadiyah, Gufroni, in a written statement, Friday, January 17.

Previously, LBHAP PP Muhammadiyah had sent an open subpoena for three days to the party in charge of installing the sea fence in Tangerang. However, the deadline had expired, so Muhammadiyah decided to report the case to the authorities.

"Given that the 3x24 hour deadline has ended since we sent a subpoena on Monday January 13," said Gufronti.

Gufroni said that the official report regarding the Tangerang sea fence would be submitted at 14.00 WIB at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit building, Jalan Trunojoyo, South Jakarta.

It is known that the installation of sea fences in Tangerang has received complaints from fishermen and coastal residents because it interferes with their activities in fishing and has the potential to damage the environmental ecosystem.

The sea fence has been around since September 2024, but has only been out to the public after it was revealed by the Banten Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP) through the results of the investigation.

The sea fence has been sealed by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), but until now it has not been clear who is responsible for its construction.

The KKP gave the installer 20 days to dismantle the fence, and if the deadline expires, the KKP will take action to demolish it forcibly.
