The Murder Incident Guard Team Convinced That The Shooting Of The Islamic Defender Front Troops Was A Serious Violation Of Human Rights, Mahfud: Where's The Proof?

JAKARTA - The Murder Incident Guard Team (TP3) initiated by Amien Rais, Marwan Batubara, and several others believed that the shooting of six Islamic Defender Front (FPI) troops by members of the police was a gross human rights violation.

This was conveyed when seven TP3 members visited President Joko Widodo at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, today. Responding to this statement, the Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD asked for verification.

"I said the government is open. If it is true, where is the evidence of serious human rights violations? Where is the proof? Tell it now or if not, I will tell the President what to do later", Mahfud said in a YouTube broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday, March 9.

Mahfud said that gross human rights violations have three conditions, namely structured, systematic, and massive. Structured means that it is carried out by the apparatus officially in a tiered manner.

Systematic is behavior with clear stages. Meanwhile, massive is a human rights violation that causes widespread victims. Mahfud said the government would follow up on TP3's wishes if there was evidence that the conditions for gross human rights violations were met.

However, if TP3 claims that there were gross human rights violations based solely on a belief, the government doubts. This is because Mahfud holds the results of the investigation by the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) which stated that the shooting of the FPI troops was not a serious human rights violation.

"If you just say you are sure, you can't. Because we have faith too, there are many perpetrators, this is the culprit, this is the mastermind, that's what finances it, we are also sure. But there is no proof", said Mahfud.

As previously reported, seven TP3 members came to the State Palace at around 10.00 a.m. local time. His meeting with Jokowi, who was accompanied by Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD and State Secretary Pratikno, only lasted about 15 minutes.

Menkopolhukam Mahfud MD said the atmosphere of the meeting was quite serious in a short time. In essence, Amien Rais asked Jokowi to hold a human rights court related to the shooting of six FPI troops.

This is because they believe that there have been killings that were committed by gross human rights violations, not ordinary human rights violations.

"Earlier they stated that they believed that six FPI troops had been killed and they asked that this be brought to a human rights court for gross human rights violations. That was conveyed to the president", said Mahfud.
