Special Charter Flights, South Korea Return Citizens From Myanmar Today

JAKARTA - The South Korean government will charter a special flight on Saturday, February 6, to bring home Koreans from Myanmar. This was stated in a statement by the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This will be the first charter flight linking the two countries as clashes between anti-coup protesters and Myanmar's military regime escalate.

However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea has not mentioned details of the airline, timing, and other details regarding the repatriation of nationals from Myanmar.

"The Korean Embassy in Myanmar has informed us of a plan to operate a charter flight departing Yangon, March 6, bound for Incheon", South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, reported on Koreatimes.

"The embassy is working with the Korean community to find out the approximate number of our nationals wishing to return, while also consulting Myanmar agencies on this matter", the statement continued.

The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Gingseng State government would do its best to protect and at the same time bring back the citizens safe.

Previously, it was known that Korean Air airlines had operated emergency flights between the two countries three times a week, for COVID-19 assistance.

However, the airline has temporarily suspended flights starting February 9, as internal temperatures increase in Myanmar following a military coup.
