JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has instructed local governments to accelerate the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination in their region.

"I have reminded and asked local governments to be faster, to be even more active in carrying out vaccinations in the regions of each country," Jokowi said in a YouTube broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat, Thursday, March 4.

Jokowi wants Indonesia to immediately have herd immunity in the community. This is because accelerating vaccination is one of the keys to controlling the rate of transmission of COVID-19.

Therefore, Jokowi continued, this vaccination should not only be carried out in Jakarta but must be rolled out to all provinces

"Everything will start the vaccination process on a large scale, which of course we hope is also supported by good vaccine distribution," he said.

To date, 2,286,123 people have been recorded as having received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination and 1,100,228 vaccination against the second dose. Meanwhile, the total target of temporary vaccination reached 40,349,051 people.

Then, as many as 12 million vaccines have been distributed to 34 provinces and 514 city districts.

"The vaccination target in the January to June period is 40 million people and we are targeting 1 million people to be vaccinated every day so that the vaccination can be completed on time according to the target we have given," he concluded.
