JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya investigators have arrested two fraudsters who carried out their actions by randomly spreading short messages (SMS).

"Remember that in the past the SMS read 'mama needs credit' or 'win the hope lottery'. That's the form, their method. There are many other modes, there are also children with accidents and needing medical expenses," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus quoted Antara, Monday, March 1.

The two fraudsters with the initials U and HS were arrested on February 20 in Pondok Jaya, Tangerang.

Yusri said that although this mode was outdated so that many people ignored it, in fact there were still victims who were caught in the trickery of the two suspects.

"Currently, most people do not believe messages like that, but in fact there are still victims who are deceived, then follow the instructions the suspect has given, including directing them to transfer," added Kombes Yusri.

When questioned, the two suspects admitted that they had only acted twice. But the police are still investigating this confession because the perpetrator is suspected of being an old player.

"The confession has only been done once or twice, but the profit after we have studied it is almost Rp. 200 million per month, by randomly cheating like this," said Yusri.

He also appealed to the public to be careful when getting the lure of winning big prizes and lotteries. Because such lucrative offers are almost certainly a mode of fraud.

As a result of their actions, the two suspects are now detained and charged under Articles 378, 372, Article 3 of RI Law Number 8 concerning TPPU, and / or RI Law Number 11 concerning ITE and / or Article 5 of Law Number 8 with a maximum threat of 20 years in prison.
