Inspector General Napoleon Remains In The Criminal Investigation Cell Even Though He Has Seen Three People Die

JAKARTA - The defendant in the case of alleged bribery for the removal of a red notice, Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte, was canceled to be transferred to the Mako Mobile Brigade detention cell in Kelapa Dua, Depok. This is because the transfer did not get permission from Brimob (Mobile Brigade). 

The cancellation of the transfer of Inspector General Napoleon was revealed after the public prosecutor (JPU) reported to the panel of judges regarding this matter.

"Regarding the judge's appointment, we have tried to transfer the detainee of Inspector General Napoleon from The Criminal Investigation detention center to the Mako Brimob detention center. We brought the person concerned to be transferred to the Mako detention center but when we got there we could not enter the Mako detention center, we were not allowed", said the prosecutor at the trial at the Corruption Court, Jakarta, Monday, March 1.

By not having the permit, continued the prosecutor, it was decided to return Inspector General Napoleon to the Criminal Investigation Prison.

Then, the prosecutor has also coordinated with The Criminal Investigation Unit regarding the reinstatement of Inspector General Napoleon and emphasized that it had taken steps to anticipate the spread of COVID-19.

"We have also confirmed to The Criminal Investigation Unit remand center that they have anticipated the covid prisoners. Related to this, We would like to submit a request to keep the person concerned at The Criminal Investigation detention center", he said.

Responding to this, the presiding judge Muhammad Damis said that he would consider this matter.

"We will consider", said Damis.

Previously reported, the former Head of International Relations Division Police Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte asked the panel of judges to permit him to move to the Mako Brimob Kelapa Dua prison, Depok.

The transfer was because Inspector General Napoleon was worried about his health. Because three prisoners have died from COVID-19 at the Criminal Investigation Prison.

The request was revealed after the head judge at trial Muhammad Damis informed him of a request letter from Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte.

"On February 16, 2021, we received a letter filed by the defendant's team of lawyers regarding a request that the prisoner is transferred to his place in detention, which was originally held at the Criminal Investigation detention center and requested to be transferred to the Mako Brimob detention center", said Damis in the Corruption Court courtroom Central Jakarta, Monday, February 22.

The judge asked the public prosecutor (JPU) to consider it. However, prosecutor Zunaedi, who did not know the reason for the request, refused the request. The reason is that while he was placed in the Criminal Investigation detention center there were never any obstacles during the trial process.

However, Judge Damis explained the reasons behind the petition. One of them is related to the spread of COVID-19.

"There were several reasons put forward, including the increase in the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in the environment where the defendant was detained. That is the point and in the letter, it was stated that prisoners had died due to exposure to COVID-19", said Damis.
