Inflation 0.1 Percent As Of February 2021 Driven By Increased Cigarette Excise Tax According To The Central Statistics Agency

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said that in February 2021 the inflation rate was at the level of 0.10 percent. This figure is lower than the January 2021 record of 0.26 percent. Meanwhile, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 106.06 in February 2021 and 105.95 for the previous month.

In its official broadcast, BPS revealed that the highest inflation occurred in Mamuju at 1.12 percent with a CPI of 106.72 and the lowest occurred in Tasikmalaya and Sumenep at 0.02 percent respectively with CPI of 103.88 and 105.52.

"Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Gunungsitoli at 1.55 percent with a CPI of 107.33 and the lowest occurred in Malang and Tarakan with 0.01 percent respectively with CPI of 104.08 and 104.27", said BPS. Monday, March 1st.

"Inflation occurs due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in most of the index for the expenditure group, including the food, beverage, and tobacco group", said BPS.

Meanwhile, the expenditure group that experienced a decrease in the index was the information, communication, and financial services group by 0.03 percent and the personal care and other services group by 0.14 percent. Meanwhile, the education group did not change.

Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (January-February) in 2021 is 0.36 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2021 against February 2020) is 1.38 percent.

Then, the core component in February 2021 experienced inflation of 0.11 percent. The inflation rate for the core components of the calendar year (January– February) 2021 is 0.25 percent and the year-on-year core component inflation rate (February 2021 to February 2020) is 1.53 percent.
