Mahfud MD (ANTARA)

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD asked the public not to be allergic to the changes that have occurred. This includes changes or revisions to the Law on Electronic Information and Transactions (UU ITE).

According to him, changes in laws will certainly occur because law is a resultant product of developments in the political, socio-economic situation to the law. In addition, changes may also occur as the government is considering revisions to the ITE Law.

"The government is considering making a resultant or new agreement related to the controversy in the ITE Law. This can be done, if it is found that a substance has a haatzai articleen character or a rubber article character," said Mahfud when he became the keynote speaker in an online discussion on Changing the ITE Law such as quoted in his written statement, Thursday, February 25.

"If indeed in the law there are substances that have a haatzai articleen character, have a rubber article character, they can be changed and revised," he added.

The government is also considering making a new resultant that includes two things.

First, to make implementative criteria, what are the criteria for an article, such a rule, so that it can be applied fairly. Then second, examining the possibility of revision changes.

"The revision is by revoking or adding sentences, or adding to the explanation in the law," said Mahfud.

As previously reported, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has formed a team to study the ITE Law. The team is divided into two, namely Sub-Team I, which formulates implementative criteria for certain articles in the ITE Law which often cause multiple interpretations.

Meanwhile, Sub-Team II will conduct a review of the substance of the ITE Law on several articles in the Law which are considered multiple interpretations to determine whether revisions are necessary.
